Here is a real historical curiosity. Vibraphonist Red Norvo and his augmented group perform nine songs from what was billed as a "history-making film" but is in reality a long-forgotten movie called Windjammer. The ensemble -- consisting of Norvo's vibes, Jerry Dodgion on alto and flute, Marvin Koral switching between alto, flute and clarinet, guitarist Jimmy Wyble, pianist Bernie Nierow, bassist Red Wootten and drummer Karl Kiffe -- uplifts the folkish melodies as best they can but fail to make any of them memorable. This LP, therefore, is of interest only to Red Norvo completists.
