Ronald Turini is a Canadian pianist and teacher born in Montreal (Sept. 30, 1934). He received piano lessons as a child and was a student of Frank Hanson at the McGill Cons. in Montreal. At 9, he entered the Montreal Cons., where he continued his training with Yvonne Hubert, Germaine Malépart, and Isidor Philipp. In 1950 he received the premier prix there, and also won the Prix Archambault. In 1953 he became a student of Isabelle Vengerova and Olga Stroumillo at the Mannes Coll. of Music in New York, and then studied for 5 years with Vladimir Horowitz. From 1956 he made regular tours. In 1958 he captured 2ndprize in the Busoni competition in Bolzano and in the Geneva competition, and in 1960 won 2ndprize in the Queen of Elisabeth of Belgium competition in Brussels. In 1961 he made his Carnegie Hall debut in New York, and played there again in 1964 and 1967. He was a soloist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra on its tour of Europe in 1962, and again in 1976. In 1971 he was soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on its North American tour. In 1975 he became a founding member of Quartet Canada. From 1977 he also taught at the Univ. of Western Ontario.
